When I began working at Narconon in April 2004, I didn't have a thorough knowledge of drug or alcohol addiction. However, I knew that many relatives and friends of drug addicts were gravely affected (we believe that approximately 10 relatives suffer).

For the past two years that I have worked at Narconon, I learned that drug addiction isn't the cause of a misconduct, but the result of it. I welcomed over 200 people, women and men of all ages, victims of dangerous drugs. Each one of these people have a common trait: they are courageous. I believe that this characteristic is the factor which greatly motivates someone to come stay in a Narconon center, and actually do the drug rehabilitation program, which generally last from 3 to 4 months. Living away from home in a Narconon center isn't always easy. Be it during the withdrawal, sauna or the daily classes, it takes a lot of courage!

When arriving at Narconon, the person is often downcast, wary, nervous and in a somewhat bad physical state. Afterwards, it is greatly rewarding to see this very same person gain self-confidence, have future plans, and have a radiant face. I remember a young girl who had arrived at the Montreal airport with her mother and grandmother, wearing sunglasses and a hat. Even if it was one in the morning, in mid July! At first, she was unsure and discouraged of what she had become. Then, near the end of her stay with us, her personality began to change so much that she became a "leader" amongst her friends, and was always present to help them and provide support. An accomplished hairdresser, she now opened her own hairdressing salon in the Boston region.

Examples like this, there are plenty. That is why we believe that the Narconon method is the best to help someone get out of drug addiction. People of all ages and social classes have shown this.

Finally, what a great pleasure it was to observe that at the end of their program, many of our students have offered their services to work at Narconon. Be it in the class, in withdrawal or sauna, they wish to help someone else get out of drug addiction. Their courage and enormous generosity show that we owe them much more respect.
