My name is Marc Bernard; I am the Executive Director of Narconon Trois-Rivières since August 2006. I have been staff with Narconon since 1998 when we began to deliver Narconon technology to the first student.

I recall that day very well. It all began a few weeks earlier when I first started working there to supervise the technical delivery to students, except there were no students. So I told the administrators at the time if we are going to deliver this workable rehab tech we need students to deliver it to. So we came up with the bright idea of having an Information "benefit" supper. Well to say the least it went very well, there were over 100 attendees including many prominent people from the community.

We had a great Italian meal, music; I gave a technical lecture on the Narconon steps and there was a briefing given by our Physician. At the end, everyone was very satisfied and was now aware that Narconon existed in the city of Montréal.

Three days later we received a phone call from a person with cocaine and alcohol addiction who wanted to do the Narconon program but the amazing thing was the call came from Edmonton Alberta. We accepted the person even if we had no residential beds for him. I agreed to have him stay at my place and I would keep a close eye on him. Each day we would take the bus and subway to the center and I would supervise his progress throughout the day. As time moved on more and more calls came in and eventually we gained residential space for lodging, etc.

The reason I mention the above story is to let you, the reader, know that being a staff member for a Narconon Center is not only a diploma on a wall or a 40 hrs a week job. It is a dedication and conviction that SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. After I had personally beaten my own addiction I realized that, it was not just me but a global infestation on humanity. That is the great thing about the Narconon Program once you do it, it's hard to just sit back and say, "okay, I'm clean I can now just go on with my life." This program opens your eyes and gives you responsibility, confront, integrity and with those the desire to help others.

Well since those early days, Narconon Trois-Rivières has grown quite a bit and I have seen many hundred's of faces over the years come in the front door, beaten, torn, hopeless and defeated only to leave the program with bright, shining and proud faces full of hopes, desires, dreams and above all certainty.

To me being a staff member at Narconon Trois-Rivières is a gift, I am not saying that there aren't days were you feel like taking an atomic sling-shot and knocking a few skulls around but this also is handled with the tools of the program and its internal structure. The cool thing about our centers is they are self-correcting. So if a staff is having a hard time, he can be corrected and taught how to deal with the situation for the future.

To conclude I would like to thank all the devoted staffs here for the constant daily efforts in helping others overcome their addiction. And it is my belief that all the diplomas and schooling can never replace basic human compassion for one's fellow man and that is what it means to be a Narconon Trois-Rivières staff member.
